Overwhelmed
From the ends of the earth, I will cry to You, when my heart is overwhelmed lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
~Psalm 61:2 NKJV
When life changes come rushing at us, we find ourselves overwhelmed and in need of the solid Rock to support us. According to Matthew Henry’s commentary “The rock is Christ; those are safe that are in Him.”
Finding a Foothold
Sickness, loss, or disappointments may leave us floundering for a foothold, and feeling overwhelmed. If we have received Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior as this hymn reminds us, we can be assured that “On Christ the solid rock I stand all other ground is sinking sand, all other ground is sinking sand.”
In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus concludes His speech with these words “Therefore, whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock; and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock” (Matthew 7:24-25 NKJV).
Depend on the Solid Rock
Bride of Christ, what foundation are you depending on? Are you standing on the Solid Rock or the sinking sand? Choose Jesus. Then, when the storms of life come you will not be shaken, nor will you sink in the sand of doubt and unbelief. Place your trust solidly and irrevocably in Him.
Receive the promise David pens: “For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; in the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me; He shall set me high upon a rock” (Psalm 27:5 NKJV). Rest assured, God will set us on the Rock that is Jesus Christ, during troubled times.
Share Memories
Do you remember a time when you were thankful that Jesus was your Rock and your foundation? Share these memories with someone today to encourage them. What wonderful assurance we have, that Jesus Christ is our Rock. We are not alone. Jesus is with us. We are safe and kept in Him.
Share a special memory of Jesus Christ being your solid Rock.
Beloved Jesus, thank You that Your promises are “yea” and “amen.” I can know that when challenges come, my foundation is in You, as You are Christ the Solid Rock.
Your Bride,
