Heart Restart
Circumstances Rearranged
Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid; ‘For YAH, the LORD, is my strength and song; He also has become my salvation.’”
~Isaiah 12:2 NKJV
Heart restart. Those were scary words…
“We’re going to restart your heart,” the ER nurse said nonchalantly. She hung a bag of fluids next to my port line.
“No!” I said.
“That’s too drastic of a measure,” My husband chimed in, “Let’s wait to see if her blood pressure normalizes from the meds you’re administering.”
“I won’t agree to a heart restart,” I said.
“Ma’am, you don’t realize the danger you’re in,” the nurse said. “We do this all the time. You’ll be fine.”
Fear overwhelmed me, compounding the high blood pressure and racing heart situation I was experiencing as a result of my body overreacting to my first chemo treatment. I silently prayed; God You’re my only hope. Please fix this!
Just then, the nurse rushed away, “I’ll be back!”
“What’s going on?” my husband asked the nurse who remained.
“She went to help someone who’s having a stroke.”
A small pin hung just above the nurse’s name badge. On it was a picture of Jesus.
“You’re a Christian?” I asked.
“Yes ma’am. May I pray for you?”
“Absolutely!” my husband and I said in unison, grabbing her hands.
Compassion oozed from the nurse as she spoke to the Lord about my situation. She knew just how to pray.
At the close of her prayer, the first nurse returned.
“The doctor has decided to delay the heart restart. We’ll give it half an hour and see what your body does.”
God’s Intervention
I knew my Beloved Jesus had intervened as a direct answer to prayer. It was at that moment that I knew there was no way the enemy could derail God’s plans for me. Jeremiah 29:11 bubbled in my heart as a melody, “For I know the plans I have for you declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope”(Jeremiah 29:11 ESV).
Father God had told me at the start of this cancer journey that He would be with me, and He was taking care of the details. He knew I would need this Christian nurse before I did. I also knew God would help my doctor with chemo administration. At the next try, she fixed the high blood pressure issue by administering more fluids and dripping the chemo through my port slower than usual.
Spiritual Heart Restart
Friend, do you, like me, need a spiritual heart restart? When our lives take a turn we were not anticipating, and God shows us His goodness through circumstances only He could orchestrate, we are renewed.
I never thought I’d even need chemo, but through prayer I knew it was the right path. He confirmed His goodness by sending the Christian nurse at the precise time I needed prayer.
The Bride’s Prayer
When we face shadowy situations, we need our Beloved Jesus to shape our thoughts, and through prayer He does. Even though we reside in a broken and divided world, our Beloved overcomes, and He quickly rescues us. As soon as we call, He is like the youthful deer prancing on the mountaintop, declaring to the enemy that He has incapacitated him.
You, as Bride, say, “Until day breaks and the shadows flee away, turn, my beloved, and be like a gazelle or a young stag upon the mountains of Bether” (Song 2:17 NKJV). Jesus overcomes every divisive challenge we face. The New Testament echoes the sentiment of Song 2:17. Beloved says, “In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world (John 16:33 NKJV).
Beloved Jesus acts on our behalf for the good, and the plan He sets for our lives is best even when we don’t understand. Trust Him. Call to Him in prayer. Know that in every situation, He is there. Beloved has not and will not abandon you. He knows the bigger picture in what you’re going through, and He will see you through to victory.
What circumstance do you need God’s intervention?
My Beloved Jesus, thank You that You are ever present. You care about every situation I go through, and You are a prayer away. Bring me through to victory. I trust that You will.
Your Bride,
